Taiga: Meeting the demand for trendy, durable, and eco-friendly kidswear in India

Kidswear brand Taiga was established in 1999 and has since evolved as one of the notable brands in the kidswear segment. The brand is known for its innovative and cutting-edge styles that blend unconventional designs and comfort with a special focus on the boys category.

Manu Chawla, Director, Taiga Knitwear Pvt. Ltd, says, “The trendy and raw characteristics of the brand allow us to maintain its distinct and unorthodox styling in the boys segment.”

Product Range & Target Audience

Taiga primarily caters to boys between the ages of 1 and 15 years. Cotton-rich fabrics are Taiga’s preferred choice for kidswear, ensuring comfort, durability, and style for young consumers. Additionally, its product range encompasses t-shirts, co-ord sets, sweatshirts, hoodies, jackets, shorts, lowers, and other offerings pertaining exclusively to the casualwear category.

Market Understanding

Highlighting the key to market understanding, Chawla emphasises, “Feedback from our retailers and store owners is one of the most crucial driving points of our ever-evolving understanding of the preferences of young audiences.”

“We believe that the kidswear segment has great potential, especially with an exponential increase in its size every year. Additionally, comfort is the paramount attribute driving purchasing decisions of parents, followed by design and price,” he adds.

Market Presence

Taiga primarily operates offline through more than 750 Multi-Brand Outlets (MBOs) across India, focusing on Western, Central, and Northern regions. While the brand does not follow an Exclusive Brand Outlet (EBO) format, it continues to expand its presence through MBOs within the country. Taiga currently operates only in India.

Sustainability Efforts

Taiga’s name is inspired by a type of northern forest found in Siberia, characterised by coniferous trees like pines, spruces, and firs, which grow between the tundra and steppes, symbolising the brand’s deep connection to nature.

“Taiga is strongly committed to environmental sustainability, actively promoting tree planting and environmental preservation. Taiga educates children about these initiatives, fostering a sense of responsibility for the environment,” Chawla says.

Challenges

With the growing potential of the kidswear segment, Taiga faces a major challenge—increasing competition from both national and international brands entering the market.

Future Forecast

Taiga consistently embraces high-fashion trends while maintaining a focus on quality at affordable prices, positioning the brand to continue its strong growth trajectory in the Indian kidswear market. The ability to innovate and adapt to market demands has earned Taiga a strong position among retailers and consumers. Looking ahead, Taiga aims to maintain its reputation for offering stylish, durable, and environmentally responsible clothing for children.

“By staying attuned to evolving trends and consumer preferences, the brand envisions further expanding its presence across India and reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and quality,” Chawla concludes.
