Indian Silk House Agencies opens 69th store in Kanpur; targets 100 outlets by FY27

Saree retailer Indian Silk House Agencies (ISHA) has opened its 69th store at Z Square Mall in Kanpur, marking its fifth outlet in Uttar Pradesh within the past 12 months. The expansion comes as the Kolkata-based retailer continues to scale its national presence, reporting a 55% year-on-year growth rate and adding stores at a pace of approximately one every ten days.

The company said it aims to reach 100 stores by FY27 and 500 stores by 2030, positioning itself as a leading organised player in India’s Rs 80,000 crore saree market, which remains largely unorganised.

The new Kanpur store spans 675 sq. ft. and offers more than 42 saree designs across price points, ranging from entry-level cotton sarees priced at Rs 1,800 to premium bridal Banarasi collections. The assortment includes Banarasi and Katan Banarasi sarees alongside regional weaves such as Kantha, Baluchari, Matka and Tussar from West Bengal; Kanjivaram, Kanchipuram and Arni from South India; and Ikkat, Bandhej, Paithani, Gadwal and Uppada varieties.

According to the company, the store sources products from a network of over 15,000 artisans across more than 60 weaving clusters nationwide.

Kanpur’s strategic importance for the retailer stems from its proximity to Banaras, home to the Banarasi weave, which accounts for the largest share of ISHA’s product portfolio. Uttar Pradesh is also one of India’s largest wedding and occasion-wear markets, making it a key focus area for the company’s expansion plans.

Speaking on the launch, Darshan Dudhoria, CEO, Indian Silk House Agencies, said, “Kanpur is our fifth UP store in twelve months and arguably our most strategic. Uttar Pradesh is the home of the Banarasi weave, the largest single category in our portfolio, and yet remains one of India’s most under-served organised saree markets. We are not opening here to participate, we are opening here to lead. At our current pace of one store every ten days, we expect to cross 100 stores by FY27 and 500 by 2030 with UP as one of our top three growth states.”

“Our vision is Sarees of India, by India, for India. We are building the country’s first scaled, organised ‘Only Sarees’ retail network: 69 stores today, 100 by FY27, 500 by 2030,” Dudhoria added.

Founded in Kolkata in 1971, Indian Silk House Agencies specialises exclusively in sarees and currently operates 69 stores alongside its omnichannel platform. The retailer offers over 15,000 handloom designs across categories including Banarasi, Kanjivaram, Baluchari, Tussar and Chanderi sarees.

The company said its expansion strategy is aimed at building a nationwide organised saree retail network while supporting artisan livelihoods through its sourcing ecosystem.
