G-SHOCK to bring manga-style toughness to Mela! Mela! Anime Japan!! fest in Delhi

Casio’s G-SHOCK will make an appearance at the third edition of Mela! Mela! Anime Japan!!, a festival of anime and Japanese pop culture, to be held at Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden, on October 3 and 4.

Casio Computer Co. Ltd., the Japan-headquartered parent of Casio India, said G-SHOCK will set up a dedicated booth in the mall’s East Zone Plaza, built around the brand’s “Absolute Toughness” idea and told through manga-style storytelling. The booth will present G-SHOCK watches against recognisable Indian backdrops and everyday situations that call for resilience and grit.

A display zone will showcase the brand’s Japanese engineering, limited-edition releases and a new Sushi collection, inspired by the Japanese culinary tradition. The centrepiece will be an interactive Manga Wall, where live Water, Shock and Mud Resistance Tests will be staged within action-style frames.

Visitors can also use a Manga Avatar & Personalisation Station to create their own manga-inspired avatar and become part of a customised G-SHOCK-themed storyline. A Hang Challenge will test participants’ strength and endurance, with top performers earning a place on a daily leaderboard.

Explaining the brand’s participation, Takuto Kimura, Managing Director, Casio India, said, “G-SHOCK has always evolved by staying true to its core while embracing new forms of expression and culture. The growing connection between Japanese and Indian youth culture presents an exciting space for us to engage with audiences who see watches not just as functional timepieces, but as an extension of their individuality. Through our participation at Mela! Mela! Anime Japan!!, we want to celebrate this shared cultural energy and create meaningful points of connection with a new generation of G-SHOCK enthusiasts.”

G-SHOCK traces its origins to 1981, when engineer Kikuo Ibe set out to build a watch that could withstand any shock. His Project Team Tough spent about two years developing more than 200 prototypes before arriving at the shock-resistant design the brand is known for. The watch has since sold over 100 million units across 100 countries.
