British department store chain Marks and Spencer (M&S) has launched its first outlet in Ranchi. The store was launched at Mall of Ranchi in Sukhdev Nagar, Jharkhand.
“Calling all shopaholics in Ranchi! Our brand-new store is now open in a brand-new city at Mall of Ranchi, and we can’t wait to welcome you. Get ready to indulge in a shopping spree like never before,” Marks and Spencer Reliance India Pvt. Ltd. said in its LinkedIn post.
For M&S, India is a strategic market, where there is acceptance of international brands and where brands have space to grow.
The country has emerged as one of the largest markets for Marks & Spencer in the past few years. The British retailer is now tapping growing markets in tier-II and III towns. Over the past few years, it has increased its range of products and is trying to be more locally relevant to continue its growth momentum.
The retailer has also launched an outlet in CP67 Mall in Mohali, its second in the city. The first store in the city is located in North Country Mall.

Recently, the global apparel, food and home-ware retailer also opened outlets in Hazratganj, Lucknow and Phoenix Palladium Mall in Ahmedabad.
M&S opened its first store in India in 2001 and in April 2008 signed a JV with Reliance Retail to form Marks & Spencer Reliance India Pvt Ltd. Established in 1884 in UK, it is one of the country’s leading retailers and has 1035 stores there plus 452 stores worldwide, alongwith online presence in over 30 markets as of 2021.
