Sri Jagdamba Pearls opens new store at Cochin airport, targets 20-25 outlets by 2028

Sri Jagdamba Pearls, a jewellery brand with a 100-year legacy, has opened a new store at Terminal 1 of Cochin International Airport (CIAL), expanding its presence in South India. The 404 sq. ft. outlet was inaugurated by Avanish Agarwal and Yash Agarwal, Managing Partners of the company. Shri Manu G. (Manu Gopalakrishna Pillai), Airport Director, CIAL, attended as Chief Guest.

What the store offers

The store stocks more than 300 designs across natural pearls, gemstones and 925 sterling silver jewellery. The range covers everyday wear, gifting, bridal and occasion-led pieces, combining traditional pearl craftsmanship with contemporary styling.

Across its portfolio, the brand offers pieces from under ₹1,500 to over ₹50 lakh. Its pearl range includes certified Basra, South Sea, Tahitian and freshwater pearls, made into multi-strand necklaces, Rani Haars, chokers, Taar Malas and bracelets. It also sells 22KT gold, Kundan and certified diamond jewellery, and has launched Aurah, a lab-grown diamond collection. Its 925 sterling silver line targets younger buyers and corporate gifting.

Expansion strategy

The brand already operates in Hyderabad and Bengaluru and sees Kerala as an important market in its South India strategy. It expects the new store to contribute to its projected 25% incremental revenue growth this year.

“Cochin marks an important step in our expansion journey as we take our legacy of natural pearls and craftsmanship to newer markets. Consumers today are looking for authenticity and certified quality while also seeking designs that can become part of their everyday wardrobes. Through this store, we are bringing together our traditional expertise with contemporary pearl, gemstone and sterling silver collections,” said Avanish Agarwal.

The company said it is seeing a shift in how younger consumers engage with pearl jewellery, with pearls moving beyond traditional and occasion-led purchases towards everyday, corporate and contemporary styling.

Deepak Kumar, Head of Retail Expansion & Marketing, said, “Kerala has a strong jewellery culture and an appreciation for craftsmanship and natural gemstones. With the Cochin store, we aim to offer customers a curated assortment, personalised service and an elevated shopping experience backed by our 100-year legacy.”

The Cochin launch is part of a wider retail push, with the company planning a network of 20–25 stores across India over the next two to three years.

The brand has been moving away from congested traditional markets such as Hyderabad’s Laad Bazaar towards experience-led flagships, premium transit retail and digital channels. It has clusters of stores in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, and its 6,500 sq. ft. showroom on MG Road, Secunderabad, houses what it describes as India’s first “Pearl Experience Zone”, with a pearl museum and live grading counters. The airport outlet is aimed at international travellers, NRI shoppers and gift buyers.

A century of heritage

The company was founded in Hyderabad in 1924 by Sri Fakeerchand Motiwale, who served as court jeweller and pearl valuer to the Nizam of Hyderabad, sourcing and evaluating natural Basra pearls for royalty. In 1975, Sri Mahender Agarwal and Ravinder Agarwal opened its first dedicated retail showroom at Pot Market, Secunderabad. Avanish Agarwal and Yash Agarwal now lead the business, handling omnichannel strategy, global shipping and retail layouts. Deepak Kumar drives its retail expansion.

Online pioneer, trust-led model

The company launched jpearls.com in 1999, which it describes as India’s first dedicated online pearl jewellery platform. It also runs corporate bulk gifting programmes. To address authenticity concerns in the pearl market, it offers a Pearl Exchange Program, under which customers can have old heirloom pearls certified and valued and trade them for new designs. It also provides a lifetime authenticity guarantee.

Sri Jagdamba Pearls specialises in natural pearls, gemstones and certified diamond jewellery in gold and silver. It operates through an omnichannel model and has served more than one million customers in India and overseas.
