Homegrown footwear label Comet has launched a new sneaker called Dilli, a limited-edition design that channels the architecture, history, and character of India’s capital city.
The shoe’s design centers on Delhi’s signature red sandstone monuments. Its overall red colourway draws from landmarks like the Red Fort and Humayun’s Tomb, while embossed detailing along the sides recreates the intricate jaali patterns found in Humayun’s Tomb’s windows. The back tab features a cutout modelled on the Lotus Temple, adding a third architectural reference to the silhouette.
The design carries a hidden layer as well — lifting the back tab reveals line art depicting several of Delhi’s iconic monuments. The reverse of the sneaker also bears a couplet from poet Mirza Ghalib: “Ye duniya maano jism hai aur Dilli uski jaan” (“Consider this world a body, and Delhi its soul”).
The Delhi theme carries through to the packaging. The shoebox uses the same red sandstone palette and is illustrated with the city’s landmarks, while the butter paper inside is designed to evoke the walls of Humayun’s Tomb.
Dilli is priced at Rs 6,299. Only 100 pairs will be sold online at launch; once that limited run sells out, the sneaker will be available exclusively at Comet’s three stores in Delhi.
With Dilli, Comet continues its design-led approach to sneakers, using the shoe as a tribute to the capital’s architectural legacy — blending visible and hidden details that reward closer inspection.
