Reliance Retail acquires himalayan beauty brand Pahadi Local

Reliance Retail has bought Pahadi Local, a niche Indian skincare and wellness brand built around ingredients sourced from the Himalayas, as it continues to expand its portfolio of homegrown labels.

The acquisition — from Pahadi Goodness Private Limited, which founded the brand in 2018 — gives Reliance Retail a foothold in the fast-growing clean beauty segment, where consumers are increasingly drawn to products with traceable, natural origins.

Pahadi Local built its identity around traditional mountain wellness practices, most notably its use of Gutti Ka Tel, or apricot kernel oil, sourced from the Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh regions. The brand works with women-led self-help groups in these communities, positioning itself around what it calls source-to-bottle transparency.

The brand gained attention beyond its consumer base when Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged its contribution to indigenous sourcing and rural enterprise.

As part of the business acquisition, the founding team of Pahadi Local will continue to play a key role in shaping the brand’s creative direction, product development, and philosophy, ensuring continuity in its purpose and consumer promise.

Reliance Retail operates nearly 20,000 stores across India and reported revenues of ₹3.3 lakh crore for the year ended March 2025. The Pahadi Local acquisition is part of a broader push into purpose-driven Indian brands across beauty, wellness, and lifestyle.
