Lavish Soni, Chief Business Officer of homegrown fashion label The House of Rare, has announced his exit from the company after ten years, marking the end of a tenure that saw the brand grow from a six-person startup into a business generating close to Rs 950 crore in annual revenue.
Soni, who joined The House of Rare in 2016 when the business had a team of six, said his decade-long stint saw the company grow from approximately Rs 2 crore in revenue to nearly Rs 950 crore, while expanding its retail footprint from 10 points of sale to more than 1,000 touchpoints across India.
The company’s network now includes 225 company-owned stores, alongside a portfolio of three brands and a workforce of more than 2,000 people, according to Soni.
Under his watch, the company’s revenue rose from roughly Rs 2 crore in 2016 to nearly Rs 950 crore in the current year. Its retail footprint expanded from just 10 points of sale to more than 1,000 touchpoints nationwide, including 225 company-owned stores. The organisation now spans 13 departments and three brands, with a workforce of over 2,000 employees.
Soni joined as Head of Retail and Business Development in September 2016, was elevated to Business Head overseeing retail, trade, business development, buying and projects in August 2021, and became Chief Business Officer in August 2024, a role he held until his exit.
Soni, who has spent 20 years building fashion brands in India, said he now plans to launch a venture of his own, though he did not disclose further details, saying only that more information would follow.
Before joining The House of Rare, Soni held retail leadership roles at Ruosh, Mustard Clothing Company, SSIPL Retail, and Puma Sports India, where he worked across store operations, retail training and area sales management. He holds a CBA in Business Administration and Management from INSEAD.
Soni signed off his farewell note with the line that has become associated with his time at the company: “Once Rare, Always Rare.”
