Nykaa buys majority stake in celebrity makeup artist Namrata Soni’s brand Simply Nam

Beauty retailer Nykaa is expanding its in-house brand portfolio into professional-grade makeup. The retailer’s parent, FSN E-Commerce Ventures, has agreed to buy a controlling stake in Simply Nam, the beauty label co-founded by celebrity makeup artist Namrata Soni.

The company said it will acquire an 82% majority stake in Simply Nam for a consideration of up to Rs 33 crore. The deal was announced alongside Nykaa’s September-quarter results on November 4. The transaction is expected to close in Q3 FY27, subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions.

Nykaa said the acquisition strengthens its House of Nykaa portfolio and marks a significant expansion into the fast-growing premium and bridge-to-luxury professional makeup segment.

Simply Nam’s turnover for FY26 was Rs 16.99 crore, nearly double from Rs 9.6 crore the year before. Soni’s work as a makeup artist is well known. She has created looks for actors including Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Janhvi Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, Disha Patani, Radhika Apte and Sonakshi Sinha, and received the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Award in 2019.

The sale follows a funding round in May 2025. Simply Nam secured a strategic investment led by the Bhaane Group, co-founded by Anand S Ahuja and Sonam Kapoor. The amount was not disclosed. The money was meant to expand the product portfolio, scale operations and double monthly recurring revenue within a year. At the time, the brand was selling on Nykaa, Amazon, Myntra and quick-commerce platforms.

Nykaa’s results

Nykaa’s Q2 FY27 net profit rose to Rs 101.19 crore from Rs 32.98 crore a year earlier, and revenue grew 28% to Rs 3,006.04 crore. The House of Nykaa portfolio has reached an annualised GMV run rate of Rs 4,000 crore.

Simply Nam is the latest in a series of brand deals. Nykaa’s first big one was Dot & Key. It bought 51% of the skincare brand in September 2021, and in 2024 agreed to buy a further 39% for Rs 265.3 crore, taking its holding to 90%. Earth Rhythm followed. Nykaa first took a minority stake of about 18.57% in the clean beauty brand in 2022. It completed a majority acquisition on November 27, 2024. That deal was reported at Rs 44.5 crore.
