The former Amazon India Apparel & Eyewear business head brings nearly two decades of fashion and retail experience, including a 14-year leadership stint at Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, as Cocoblu sharpens its focus on scaling its fashion and lifestyle business…
The fashion and e-commerce industry continues to see experienced leadership talent move across the traditional and digital retail ecosystem. In the latest development, Namita Bali has joined Cocoblu Retail as Chief Business Officer – Apparel, Footwear and Handbags, taking charge of three important categories in the company’s fashion and lifestyle portfolio.
Bali brings over 18 years of experience spanning fashion merchandising, brand management, category development, e-commerce and retail business leadership. Her appointment brings together two significant chapters of her professional journey: nearly 15 years at Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail (ABFRL), followed by close to five years at Amazon India, where she most recently headed the Apparel and Eyewear businesses.
Her move to Cocoblu is particularly interesting given her experience across both sides of the fashion business. At ABFRL, she worked closely with established fashion brands, product development, buying, merchandising and offline retail operations. At Amazon, she moved into the marketplace ecosystem, managing large-scale category growth, brand partnerships, selection strategies and customer experience.
From brand building to marketplace scale
Bali’s career began at the Aditya Birla Group, where she joined as a Group Management Trainee after completing her MBA in Marketing from NMIMS. She subsequently spent almost 15 years at ABFRL, steadily moving through retail operations, planning, merchandising and brand leadership roles.
At Louis Philippe, she handled several responsibilities across retail planning, marketing, category management and buying and merchandising. Her work involved developing assortment and buying processes, improving inventory productivity, strengthening customer relationship management and driving store-level profitability. She also contributed to the brand’s retail expansion and merchandise planning initiatives.
Her subsequent assignments included heading Allen Solly Womenswear and Non-Apparel and conceptualising and launching Simon Carter in India, where she served as Brand Director. She later took on the responsibility of Assistant Vice President for Louis Philippe, further strengthening her experience in premium menswear and brand management.
In April 2022, Bali moved to Amazon India, initially taking charge of new business initiatives in category management. One of her key responsibilities was spearheading the launch and scaling of premium and designer wear brands within the Softlines category, including the development of an exclusive Premium Brands Store to enhance the online shopping experience.
She subsequently became Business Head – Apparel and Eyewear in April 2023. In this role, she led the Menswear, Womenswear, Kidswear and Eyewear businesses, overseeing selection, pricing, brand partnerships, category growth and customer experience.
Her transition to Cocoblu therefore marks an interesting progression from managing established fashion brands and their retail economics to building and scaling fashion categories within a large e-commerce ecosystem.
Cocoblu: Building scale in India’s e-commerce ecosystem
Bali’s appointment comes at a time when Cocoblu Retail has established a substantial presence in India’s e-commerce landscape. A subsidiary of RattanIndia Enterprises, Cocoblu operates as a large-scale e-commerce seller and business partner to brands, helping them expand their online presence through marketplace operations.
The company’s financial performance reflects the scale of its operations. Cocoblu reported revenue from operations of approximately ₹6,528 crore in FY25, increasing to ₹7,351 crore in FY26, representing year-on-year growth of around 12.6%. It reported a profit after tax of ₹90.6 crore in FY26.
The momentum has continued into FY27. Cocoblu reported total income of ₹3,786 crore in H1 FY27, compared with ₹3,743 crore in the corresponding period last year. The relatively modest growth needs to be viewed in the context of festive season timing: Diwali shopping, which contributed to H1 sales in FY26, shifted to the second half of FY27.
Its operating infrastructure is equally significant. During FY26, the business handled approximately 14 crore orders. In H1 FY27 alone, it served around 6.8 crore orders, equivalent to approximately four orders every second. Its network includes more than 950 Amazon fulfilment centres and quick-commerce dark stores, over 1,550 active vendors and access to customers across more than 20,000 pin codes in India.
Why fashion leadership matters
For Cocoblu, apparel, footwear and handbags represent important categories in a highly competitive online retail environment. These categories require more than simply expanding the number of brands and products available. They demand a sharp understanding of consumer preferences, price positioning, product discovery, assortment planning, inventory productivity and the ability to balance premium offerings with mass-market demand.
This is where Bali’s experience across ABFRL and Amazon could prove particularly valuable. Her understanding of brand positioning and fashion merchandising, combined with her experience in marketplace-led category management, gives her a perspective that spans product creation, brand building and digital distribution.
Her experience with premium and designer labels at Amazon could also be relevant as Cocoblu looks to deepen its fashion and lifestyle assortment. At the same time, her background in buying, merchandising and P&L management at ABFRL brings an understanding of the commercial fundamentals that determine category profitability.
The opportunity is significant. India’s online fashion market is becoming increasingly competitive, with established fashion retailers, marketplaces, digital-first brands and emerging labels all looking to capture a larger share of consumer spending. As online shoppers become more discerning, the ability to combine brand variety, differentiated merchandise, competitive pricing and a seamless shopping experience will become increasingly important.
For Bali, the new assignment brings together the different strands of a career built around fashion, retail and business growth. For Cocoblu, it represents an addition of experienced fashion leadership at a time when scale, category depth and stronger brand partnerships are becoming critical to its next phase of growth.
With nearly two decades of experience across some of India’s most recognised fashion and retail businesses, Namita Bali’s next chapter will be closely watched as Cocoblu looks to strengthen its position in the country’s fast-evolving online fashion and lifestyle market.
