Zomato parent Eternal’s District app ventures into fashion retail

Eternal Ltd, the parent company of Zomato, has officially expanded its District vertical beyond dining and entertainment into the fashion retail sector. As part of this move, the District app—previously focused on going-out experiences—has introduced a new ‘Retail stores’ tab in select locations, enabling users to discover and shop from apparel, footwear, and accessories retailers directly through the platform. Confirmed brands now listed include popular names such as The Souled Store, Adidas, VLCC, Toni & Guy, Heads Up For Tails, and Libas.

District is also incentivising users with additional discounts as well as food and movie vouchers for purchases made via the platform, mirroring offline-to-online commerce models employed by other retail-tech startups. The move marks an effort by Eternal to diversify revenue streams within its going-out vertical, which reported over a 300% increase in losses in the most recent financial quarter, but also more than doubled its revenue to ₹207 crore as it expands its user base and feature set.

This strategic push into fashion aligns with industry trends, as leading Indian digital commerce players intensify efforts to capture the growing lifestyle retail market through both online and omnichannel services. Eternal’s management has signaled that the transition of its going-out business entirely to District—including phasing out the dining-out feature on the Zomato app—will be completed over the next two quarters.
