The House of Rare, one of India’s leading contemporary fashion collectives, has launched its largest flagship store yet — a 10,500 sq. ft. destination called Milap — on Shakespeare Sarani, Kolkata.
Set inside a 126-year-old heritage building, Milap (meaning “union”) brings together history and modernity, craftsmanship and design. While the interiors reflect the brand’s minimal, contemporary aesthetic, key architectural elements such as the façade, staircases, and arches have been carefully restored, preserving Kolkata’s architectural legacy.
Speaking about the launch, Manish Poddar, Founder, The House of Rare, said: “Kolkata holds a special place in our journey. Opening our largest store here, in a building that has seen more than a century of life, feels deeply personal. This is more than growth—it’s storytelling, revival, and gratitude.”
The flagship will feature all four verticals — Rare Rabbit (menswear), Rareism (womenswear), Rare Ones (kidswear), and Rare’Z (streetwear and footwear) — along with the latest Autumn/Winter collection.
Akshika Poddar, Co-Founder, added: “Every detail in this space was designed to evoke emotion and reflect Kolkata’s soul. This store is a tribute to memory, modernity, and authenticity.”
The project was brought to life through collaborations with JSW, Slottwal, Forte Fixture, Zahid Interior, Aura Airtechnics (Samsung), Hybec, Simpolo, Classic Digital, Wave Rider, and Design O Craft.
With this launch, The House of Rare reinforces its position as a storyteller of space and style, creating a retail experience that is immersive, intentional, and rooted in heritage.
