Reliance Retail has named Sandeep Karwa as the new Chief Executive Officer of AJIO, its fashion and lifestyle e-commerce platform, according to media reports. The appointment marks the end of an era at the Bengaluru-based fashion portal, with founding CEO Vineeth Nair moving into an expanded role within Reliance Retail.
Karwa brings a substantial background in e-commerce to the position. He spent close to 13 years at Flipkart, where he served as Vice President of the Flipkart Ads Platform, among other roles. He subsequently joined Korean e-commerce giant Coupang, where he was appointed Country Head for Taiwan, with a mandate to strengthen Coupang’s presence in that market and accelerate its broader expansion across Asia. Karwa led the Taiwan business from February 2025, before departing later in the year.
Vineeth Nair, who has been part of Reliance Retail’s leadership since 2013, was the first and only CEO AJIO has had since the platform was launched in 2016. Under his leadership, AJIO grew into one of India’s leading online fashion retailers, known for blending global fashion with local sensibilities and building a loyal following among younger, digitally native shoppers.
The leadership change comes as Reliance Retail continues to invest in and restructure its digital commerce business. AJIO serves as Reliance Retail’s primary digital commerce initiative in fashion and lifestyle, offering handpicked styles across clothing, footwear and accessories.
Reliance Retail has not issued a public statement on the transition at the time of writing.
