Japanese retail brand MUJI, known for its ‘no brand quality goods,’ has unveiled its newly relocated and expanded store at Palladium, Mumbai. Originally opened in India in 2016 with a 2,800 sq. ft. space, the store now spans an impressive 11,000 sq. ft., making it the second-largest MUJI store in the country. The new space embodies MUJI’s timeless philosophy of simplicity, sustainability, and functional living.
Founded in Japan in 1980, MUJI (short for Mujirushi Ryohin) offers a wide range of everyday essentials, including household goods, apparel, stationery, and food. The brand’s design ethos is rooted in three key principles — careful selection of materials, streamlined processes, and simplified packaging — resulting in products that are simple, useful, and universally appealing.
Often described as ‘empty vessels,’ MUJI products are designed to adapt to individual lifestyles, celebrating the beauty of simplicity where function and quality take precedence over branding.
The new Palladium store marks a significant milestone in MUJI’s India journey. The merchandise span has grown from 65 to 193, and the product assortment has increased from 1,361 to over 1,800 articles. Customers can now explore an expanded selection of apparel crafted from natural materials such as organic cotton, linen, and lyocell, alongside self-care products, tableware, stationery, and other daily essentials.
The store layout reflects MUJI’s core design philosophy — calm, minimal, and intuitive. Every element has been thoughtfully designed to promote mindful consumption and sustainable living, offering shoppers a serene and inspiring retail experience.
“We are delighted to announce the opening of MUJI Palladium. The store has relocated and expanded to four times its original size, offering an extensive range of apparel, self-care products, and daily essentials. As MUJI’s largest store in the heart of Mumbai, it invites customers to experience the true world of MUJI,” said Takeshi Fujimoto, COO, MUJI India.
