Delhi leads in online festival fashion shopping, says new study

Delhi is taking the lead in online shopping sales during the festive season, as revealed in a study conducted by Nielsen Media, commissioned by Amazon India. According to the study, the capital city has emerged as the top-performing city in terms of online shopping enthusiasm. A staggering 81% of consumers across India intend to shop online during this festive season, and Delhi stands at the forefront of this online shopping revolution.

Amazon.in reigns as the preferred online shopping destination for fashion

Amazon.in has ranked as the most trusted online shopping platform, as 68% of consumers in Delhi consider Amazon.in to be their preferred online shopping destination, with almost half of them identifying it as the most trusted online brand for festive shopping. Furthermore, 75% of Delhi consumers appreciate the wide selection of products and brands available on Amazon.in.

“The festive period is the favorite time for consumers and sellers across India. We are inspired to learn that consumers this year are excited and willing to spend and shop more online,” Manish Tiwary, country manager of India consumer business, Amazon India, said.

Delhi’s Strong Demand for Premium Fashion and Beauty

For Fashion and Beauty enthusiasts, we have thousands of new launches from over 50 brands on Amazon.in. We have observed an increase in demand for premium products from Delhi’s fashion enthusiasts and Gen Zs are opting for K-pop-inspired (Korean) and nostalgia-driven trends, such as ’90s and early 2000s styles,” Saurabh Srivastava, Vice President, Amazon Fashion India said.

Unveiling the Fashion and Beauty Trends in Delhi

Here are some of the notable fashion and beauty trends observed on Amazon.in in Delhi:

  • 1 in 2 customers shopping on Amazon.in are Gen Z and from North of India.
  • Customers in Delhi show a strong inclination towards premium products such as premium sarees in the newly launched ‘Saree Store.’
  • The Gen Z customer has a strong preference for K-pop-inspired attires, oversized clothing, and nostalgia-driven fashion trends from the ’90s and early 2000s styles. Gen Z is also opting for indo-western styles like print-on-print sets, ethnic co-ords, and pre-draped sarees.
  • Increased demand from customers in Delhi for global beauty brands like blush, lipsticks, lip tints, BB Creams, and multi-purpose products.

Amazon Fashion, known for its extensive range of fashion brands, offers customers more than 40 lakh styles from over 1200 fashion brands like Puma, FabAlley, Biba, Aurelia, Jockey, L’Oreal, Minimalist, Fastrack, Crocs, Adidas, Maybelline, Allen Solly, Peter England, among others. The online shopping platform also offers technologies like virtual try-ons, outfit builders, and style snap—an image-based search tool that empowers customers to receive product suggestions closely aligned with items depicted in images.

According to the study, consumers across India are bullish, excited, and more eager than ever to shop online during this festive season. Amazon.in is the most preferred online brand for consumers across India to shop for large appliances (51%), mobiles/smartphones (44%), consumer electronics (43%), grocery items (41%), home and kitchen (40%), apparels, footwear & fashion accessories (38%), and beauty (35%). Consumers plan to spend across a wide range of categories during this festive period, from high-value items to daily essentials; 75% are interested in buying electronic gadgets and products (smartphones, TVs, refrigerators, ACs), luxury and authentic beauty brands, home furnishing/improvement items and consumables, online.

The study took place between 9th August and 7th September 2023 with a sample size of 8159 across 35 cities pan India, with Delhi leading the way in online shopping sales.
