Sephora partners with Reliance Retail Ventures to reshape India’s beauty retail

Sephora, a global leader in beauty retail, has forged an alliance with Reliance Beauty & Personal Care Ltd., a subsidiary of Reliance Retail Ventures Limited (RRVL), with a shared goal of transforming India’s prestige beauty retail landscape. Under this partnership, RRVL gains exclusive rights to expand and elevate Sephora’s presence across India’s retail channels.

Sephora has been a key player in India since its debut in 2012, leveraging its unique brand, expert product curation, and distinctive approach to beauty and experiential retail to cater to the diverse needs of India’s consumer base.

“We are tremendously excited to partner with the largest retail group in India to step-change our business. Rising affluence, increasing urbanization and the proliferation of social media have driven greater awareness of self-care and beauty, unlocking major opportunities for prestige beauty. It is an opportune time for us to invest in expanding our presence, and bring new, exciting, and exclusive brands to delight our growing community of beauty enthusiasts,” Alia Gogi, Asia President, Sephora said.

“We are equally grateful to Arvind for their partnership over the past eight years to get us positioned for the next stage of growth,” Gogi added.

“We are excited and proud to partner with Sephora, a global leader in beauty. The Indian consumerism journey is at a tipping point, providing the perfect tailwind to this partnership. Importantly this partnership will help us straddle across the value chain in the beauty and personal care segment,” V Subramaniam, Director, Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd. said.

As part of this collaboration, Reliance Beauty & Personal Care Limited will assume control of Sephora’s existing operations in India, including 26 stores across 13 cities, previously managed by Arvind Fashions Limited. During the transition period, the stores and website will continue to operate as usual. This partnership will further enrich the offerings of Reliance Beauty & Personal Care Ltd.

The Indian beauty and personal care market, currently valued at USD 17 billion and projected to grow at an 11% CAGR, is believed to be in its infancy, positioning India as one of the largest untapped consumer markets globally. RRVL, India’s largest retailer and one of the fastest-growing globally, uniquely combines deep consumer insights with unparalleled customer access, both offline and online.

Sephora, a leading global prestige beauty retail brand, operates in 35 markets and serves a vast community of beauty enthusiasts through a network of over 2,700 stores, iconic flagships, e-commerce platforms, and digital channels. With a curation of nearly 300 brands, including their own label, Sephora Collection, they offer a diverse range of beauty products.

RRVL operates an integrated omni-channel network of over 18,650 stores and digital commerce platforms across multiple sectors. With a consolidated turnover of ₹260,364 crore ($31.7 billion) and a net profit of ₹9,181 crore ($1.1 billion) for the year ending March 31, 2023, RRVL stands as the only Indian retailer in the global Top 100 and one of the fastest-growing retailers globally, according to Deloitte’s Global Powers of Retailing 2023 report.
