Chairperson of Landmark Group, Micky Mukesh Jagtiani, has passed away at the age of 70. Details regarding his death have not been made public as yet.
The billionaire businessman started the empire in 1973 which has since expanded to include over 50 brands including Lifestyle International, Splash, Shoemart, Home Centre, Babyshop, Centrepoint, and more.
Landmark was founded by Jagtiani 40 years ago as baby products store. At that time he was concentrating only on retail and kept improvising, learning from his ups and downs. Today, the group – hailed in recent times as a pioneer in family-owned businesses in the Gulf – is prevalent in various fields in the Gulf and internationally. Jagtiani is credited for this aggressive push into new markets with not just one, but several brands under his banner.
Landmark has 2,200 stores spread across 24 countries in the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent.
Earlier this year, Jagtiani was ranked 511 on the Forbes’ 37th annual world’s billionaires list, with a net worth of $5.2 billion. He is survived by three children and his wife Renuka Jagtiani who currently runs the Dubai-based firm as Chairman & CEO.
