India’s one of the largest footwear and accessories speciality retailers Metro Brands has partnered with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India to launch its first-ever vegan friendly shoe collection. The brand, renowned for its innovation and high quality products, partnered with PETA in honour of our colourful Earth and the animals that live on it. Although, there are leather-free shoes already in the market, this collection will mark the first time a major India shoe retailer is celebrating vegan footwear through an official collection – Metro Brand’s latest Tie-Dye Collection, made with modern, comfortable animal-free materials that are kinder to the planet.

Metro Brands is proud to offer consumers our latest range – Tie-Dye in high-quality animal-free materials” says Metro Brands’ Ecommerce and Marketing President Alisha Malik. Adding “Globally, a growing number of consumers have been choosing vegan shoes, and our focus on innovation, trends, and customer service means we provide consumers options they want.

With Metro Brands’ vegan Tie-Dye shoes, consumers can wear their ethics on their feet, while expressing their fun sense of style. What better way to show off that you’re a green animal lover than through fashionable vegan-friendly footwear?” says PETA India Chief Corporate Liaison Pooja Gupta.

Metro Brands’ decision comes as Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth researchers predicted in 2021 that “once the pandemic is over people are going to move towards vegan and sustainable apparel brands in India”. The Times of India also recently reported, “Sustainable vegan leather is becoming a fashion fad.” And a Credit Suisse Research Institute survey reveals Gen Z and millennial consumers in India are more likely to buy sustainable products.

PETA India – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear” and which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview – offers a “PETA-Approved Vegan” logo to help shoppers locate animal-friendly options.
